Autoimmune Disorders Specialist

Integrative Family Medicine

Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine located in Olney, MD

Autoimmune disorders have been historically difficult to cure. Often times after traditional treatment, there will be a remission of symptoms, followed by their return not long after. Oriental medicine focuses on treating patients individually and according to their symptoms, as opposed to treating patients with the standard protocol associated with a certain disorder. If you’d like to learn more about treating autoimmune disorders with Oriental medicine, click or call to schedule an appointment with Dr. Anahita Seyedan of Integrative Family Medicine located in Olney, Maryland.

Autoimmune Disorders Q & A

What types of autoimmune disorders can Oriental medicine help?

Oriental medicine has been proven to help treat many autoimmune disorders. Some include:

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Allergies

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

The key to successfully using Oriental medicine to treat autoimmune diseases is to identify a patient's pattern of symptoms. Some of these patterns could be when flare-ups occur, when symptoms are at their worst, and when symptoms are at their most tolerable. By treating symptoms every time they occur, Dr. Seyedan is able to correct these patterns and prevent them from reoccurring.

What are some treatment options?

Dr. Seyedan’s individualized treatment options can include acupuncture, and the use of an infrared sauna. In addition to these services, Dr. Seyedan also treats her patients by prescribing herbal medicines and offering life coaching.

What does acupuncture entail?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese technique used for unblocking a patient’s qi — pronounced ‘chi' — energy. It is done by inserting needles at particular points on the body to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang. In the case of fibromyalgia, for instance, acupuncture is known to ease pain and stiffness. Similarly, because there is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, Dr. Seyedan may encourage patients who have the disease to receive consistent acupuncture treatments to ease joint swelling and discomfort.

At Integrative Family Medicine, acupuncture treatments normally take an hour to an hour and a half.
