Viruses and other bugs are still out and about in the summer, so here's a reminder to for good hand-washing!  Did you know its more important to wash you hands for a long time then the type of soap you use)?  Did you know alot of the “anti-microbials” touted in anti-microbial soap breakdown into components that are bad for the environment?  Yes, rubbing your hands adequately under water removes most of the germs.  So, count to 20!  Take the time to appreciate each finger, regardless of what else you use!

And a reminder to wash your fruits and vegetables too!  Did you know Celery, peaches, strawberries, apples and blueberries are the top 5 fruits and vegetables in pesticide contamination?  Buy local foods, eat more veggies than fruits, and enjoy!!

Happy Summer!

We're in full swing at the office! As we transition to spring, a lot of illnesses can show up (colds/flu, sinus problems, feelings of tension/irritability, headaches, muscle problems, etc). Consider a seasonal acupuncture treatment to help get back in balance. Speaking of acupuncture, we're glad to welcome some new acupuncture practitioners to this space!

The move is here and starting February we will be at our new location, 10440 Shaker Drive, Columbia, MD! Phone numbers will not change. We will have an in-house apothecary, a place to sit and enjoy tea/read a book/listen to a meditation CD before or after your appointment, and 2 treatment rooms. Also, starting February, acupuncture will be worked into medical appointments as appropriate. Full body acupuncture will still require a separate visit.

Big changes ahead as the practice grows! Look forward to a new location, acupuncture services, improved online scheduling, supplements in stock at your request, and more community! I'd love your feedback -- let me know your suggestions on the "Email Dr. Rabenhorst" page!

Admist the precautions for swine flu and all the communicable diseases out there, also take the opportunity to be in awe of the human body, mind, and spirit and all that it is capable of. Remember that laughing helps your immune system too. Being sick can be serious, and even so it helps to balance that with having a light heart. My two cents on things overlooked: take effective action by smiling, count your blessings, handwash (most important is spending enough time rubbing your hands under water, and hand washing is better than hand sanitizers), get enough D, and reconnect with the things that help you walk through fear.

By now, I think I have talked to all my patients on Armour thyroid, which has been off the shelves as the company reformulates the product. Most pharmacies are also out of a comparable product, Nature-throid. If you are running low, please contact the office. I can call in a compounded prescription. This is also a good opportunity to reassess and optimize the thyroid, continuing to discern why it is not balanced.
